WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR DOT PHYSICAL


Your DOT medical examination includes:

The urinalysis performed during a DOT physical screens for protein, blood and glucose. It is not a DOT drug test. DOT drug testing, when required, is a separate collection.



WHAT SHOULD I BRING?


✓ Driver's license or government-issued photo ID

✓ Glasses or contacts, if worn

✓ Hearing aids, if used

✓ Current medication list

✓ Relevant medical records


If you have diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, a seizure or neurological history, recent surgery or injury, or take medications that may affect safe driving, additional medical documentation may be needed.



HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION?


Having a medical condition does not automatically mean you cannot qualify for a DOT medical certificate.


Certain conditions may require additional records, testing, specialist evaluation, or documentation from your treating provider.


Bringing the appropriate records to your appointment can help prevent delays in determining certification.



HOW LONG IS A DOT MEDICAL CARD VALID?


A DOT medical certificate may be issued for up to 24 months.


Some medical conditions require more frequent monitoring and may result in a shorter certification period. A shorter certification period does not necessarily mean you failed your DOT physical.
